Race course entertaintment
The 5th Carrefour Warsaw Halfmarathon 2009 is not only a sports competition. It is also a great social event which releases the positive energy and a huge potential of the city. Spontaneous public support along the route helps the participants to cover the distance and allows the inhabitants to feel the heartbeat of the city.
On March 27-28, Warsaw expects unusual entertainment, top quality performance and real fun. At the start of the 4th Carrefour Warsaw Halfmarathon there will be runners coming from several dozen countries. The elite field and trotting amateurs will race shoulder to shoulder. All the participants will have an opportunity to ‘visit’ the most beautiful and the most distinctive areas of the capital city. Along the route, music bands, dancing groups and other artists will perform.
The start and the finishing line of the Carrefour Warsaw Halfmarathon will be located at one spot – right in the heart of Warsaw, next to Zamkowy Square. Already on the Friday evening, Krakowskie Przedmieście Street will be closed specially for the runners and fans. Numerous accompanying events will be held, e.g. competitions for children and young people, short distance runs, „5-by-5 Relay”.
Krakowskie Przedmieście Street is one of the most historical drags in the history of the country and one of the most beautiful streets in Warsaw. It is home to numerous buildings of importance: Presidential Palace, The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Warsaw University, the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Bristol Hotel and many historic tenement houses and monuments. The promenade swarms with various bars, restaurants and shops. The part of the promenade between the Monument of Kopernik and Zamkowy Square is one of the most favorite walking routes both for visitors and for city inhabitants.
There is no doubt where the greatest emotions appear and fans will come in abundance! In the Marathon Village there will be numerous sport, artistic, live entertintment and… culinary attractions. It will be possible to measure the fat contents in the body, to learn how to deliver first aid and to get aquainted with the basic grasps of self-defence.
Music bands and artistic groups will help create the event’s climate. There will be 10 music stands along the halfmarathon course, which means that you will be able to hear drummers from one of the best Polish drum schools – Klick&Drum – almost all the time. You will also enjoy singers from gospel choir Sound'n'Grace and participants in a special drum workshop.
Marathon Village
On Saturday afternoon on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, there will be a series of small accompanying events. Please join us – we invite both children and adults to take part in different activities!
2:00 PM – Shopping Cart Racing
It is the only chance to legally drive a shopping cart and feel drunk at the same time – without a drop of alcohol of course! You will be equipped with 'alco-glasses' provided by The “Krzyś” Foundation and Carrefour shopping cart. Teams of 2 take part.
3:00 PM – Robinson Game
An escape from a desert island - an all-round event for children. Each participant will face many challenges, such as crossing the river, jumping on stones, passing round a spider net and fighting monkeys with coconuts...
4:00 PM – 'A' as in Army
Little polygon for adult soldiers with child's imagination. Dexterity and power are not enough! That who will first cross the finish line with a parrot in their hand will become the winner...
5:00 PM – Tug of rope
Have you ever dreamt of getting a lift to the finish line while running? Well, that is hardly possible, but still you can grasp a rope and tow a car to the finish line. A competition for 4-person teams.
